About
As the Associate Director for Student Development & Evaluation, Julian is primarily responsible for spearheading the Asian American Mentor Program (AAMP) and its credit-bearing course GLAS 105: “Asian American Identities, Cultures, and Communities.” He is an alumnus of UIUC where he earned Bachelor/Master of Science in Accountancy degrees with a minor in Asian American Studies and an alumnus of UIC where he earned a Master of Arts in Teaching History. Before returning to UIC professionally, Julian worked as a high school social studies teacher in a predominantly Latine and Black school within Chicago Public Schools (CPS). His classes included U.S. history and a seminar course for freshman and seniors that focuses on identity and career & college development. Julian Ignacio is an educator and community organizer who focuses on strong community development through robust relationship-building, comprehensive curriculum planning and execution, and using data to drive initiatives. Outside of school, Julian volunteers for the National Alliance for Filipino Concerns (NAFCON) by providing workshops on Filipino culture and history and consulting on accounting. Prior to becoming a teacher, Julian worked as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and served on the board of the University of Illinois Asian American Alumni Network and the diversity, equity, and inclusion committees for Workiva and Crowe Horwath.
